Philips Avent Bottle Warmer Review 2020

Philips Avent Bottle Warmer Review – Babies love drinking warm milk, not only is it comfort in a bottle but it is good for their health too compared to cold milk. Cold milk has been said to cause upset tummies in some babies.

If you make a formula drink for your child, you can easily make warm milk by using warm water instead of cold.

However, what can you do if you freeze breastmilk after you have breastfed?

If you are a breastfeeding momma, you know that one way to preserve breastmilk would be to freeze it but of course, you can’t give the iced milk to your baby. First, you have to thaw it.

You can do it by placing the milk bag in a pot of warm water, or you can use the Philips Avent Bottle Warmer.

Philips Avent Bottle Warmer Review

A Brief History

I’m sure you’ve heard about the brand Philips. Their company’s goal is to make sure that their product can somehow make the world a healthier and a more sustainable place to live in, with the help of their innovative technology. By 2030, they aim to improve the lives of three (3) billion people.

The company first started out around 1891 when Gegard Philips and his father Frederik Philips established Philips & Co. in Eindhoven, Netherlands. They didn’t start with baby products, but with light bulbs. The company wanted to “manufacture incandescent lapms and other electrical products”.

In 1895, Gerard’s brother Anton Philips joined in their company. He was the brain behind their commercials and because of his work, the brand Philips became one of the world’s leading producers of light bulbs.

However, today Philips widened their scope, focusing not only with light bulbs but also in the health sector. You can see Philip products in hospitals and clinics too. Not only that, but you can see Philips in the homes too with their baby devices.

Nowadays, we will find that Philips has become one of the leading brands in health, focusing on improving people’s health and enabling better outcomes across the health continuum.

So if there’s a company you can trust, it’s Philips.

IS A BOTTLE WARMER ESSENTIAL?

The honest answer is no.

You can survive without a bottle warmer, but it certainly makes things a little easier. And for moms, easier and faster is always better.

Imagine a crying newborn baby in your arms, on the verge of a tantrum due to hunger, but you can’t give her the milk bottle yet because the milk hasn’t thawed yet or you warmed it up too much so now you have to wait a bit for it too cool down before giving it to your baby.

Real scenarios you don’t want to be in.

I must also add that there will be times when the temperature of the milk inside the bottle will not be equal. There are those we call ‘hot spots’ or those parts of the milk that got hot quickly, maybe because of the positioning of the milk bottle while you were heating it up.

A mother in panic because her baby won’t settle down, has a high chance to neglect checking if the temperature of the milk inside the bottle is equal, meaning there are no hot spots. Hot spots can cause slight burns in your baby’s mouth which is something I’m sure no parent wants to happen.

You can prevent that by using a bottle warmer.

… BUT FIRST, HOW DO YOU HEAT UP BREASTMILK WITHOUT A BOTTLE WARMER?

If you are a first time mom, I understand that you might be a little lost, a little overwhelmed with all these new responsibilities that has been placed on your shoulder. Who knew that having a baby would be so much work, right?

Babies love warm milk. It is because the milk inside our bodies are already a little warm because of our body’s temperature. It is definitely not cold. Most parents warm up milk first before giving it to the baby.

Alright, so you don’t have a bottle warmer.. What do you do?

You will take the breastmilk (assuming you are breastfeeding) out of the freezer, and put it in a bowl or in a pot or in a mug with a few inches of hot water. Not boiling water, of course. You will then have to wait for 15 minutes, and constantly check if the milk is already in the right temperature.

You can check by dripping some milk drops in your forearm.

Again, you have to make sure that the heat is evenly spread and there are no hotspots.

FASTER, SAFER OPTION

If you are like me, I prefer to do things fast and safe. Not only is having a bottle warmer more time saving, but it’s also safer for the baby.

The main point of using a bottle warmer is to have that ability to maintain the temperature of the milk at a constant temperature.

Frequent checking of the temperature of the milk over the stove or in the microwave (which is a no no to do by the way, because using a microwave creates more hot spots and somehow it can damage the nutrients and antibodies that can be found in breastmilk) is so time consuming, energy consuming, and an invitation for a baby to throw a tantrum.

Imagine that’s fifteen minutes of your time spent in front of a stove, constantly checking when you can do so much more.

HAVE NO FEAR, PHILIPS IS HERE!

I know you want the best for your baby, and that is Philips. A proven and tested brand you can trust. Using a bottle warmer is easy too.

Here is what you have to do:

1.) Add water to the reservoir you can find in the device.

2.) Turn the dial.

3.) Wait for three minutes.

Note: the milk bottle should already be attached to the Philips Bottle Warmer device.

Let’s pay attention to number three: 3 minutes. That’s five times faster than warming up a milk bottle over a stove. I believe the maximum is 5 minutes if you have a lot of milk inside the bottle. Nonetheless, still faster than a stove.

Time saving? BIG CHECK.

The gentle method of heating up the milk inside the bottle ensures that the heating is even and it preserves the nutrients that can be found in breastmilk. It is able to circulate the water you placed in the reservoir to avoid hot spots, making it safe for your baby to drink.

Safe for baby? BIG CHECK.

Aside from milk, you can also use the bottle warmer to warm up baby’s food before you give it to him. This allows a more natural heating option aside from the microwave.

Flexible? CHECK.

One thing I can think of that this product lacks is a timer. The design is practical, yes, but it lacks a timer. What I usually do is I change the baby’s diaper first while waiting for the bottle to finish heating up, because around the time I finished, the bottle is usually ready. Or you can, use a timer in your phone or do it old school and look at the clock.

I don’t think you’ll forget that you have a bottle in the device though, especially when your baby is crying for it.

I love that it is only for 22.99 US DOLLARS too. It is affordable, especially for mom’s who have to budget with diapers, wet wipes, and other baby needs. You can still use it for more than a year so it’s really worth the money.

HOW DO YOU CLEAN IT?

No need to get complicated, you just wash it like how you wash your other appliances. Same with how you clean your blender.

VERDICT: Legit

With that said, I hope you make the right choice when it comes to choosing the products that you use for your baby, especially for those that he or she will ingest. I know most (if not all)  parents want the best for their little ones. We can only recommend products to you, but at the end of the day, the choice is yours.

  1. A good baby shower gift for me. I see the value that this product can offer and I am fascinated thought to think that I should get this for my sister who is just about to give birth in a month or few days. It truly is a wonderful product from Phillips for the family. I used to think they will stick to electrical appliances like DVDs and Fridges. All the same this is a good product and it’s worth it’s price.

  2. Bottle warmers are quite necessary when nursing a toddler, something I had quite an experience with when my first child came around. However, I had no idea bottle warmers could have such special features like this Phillips Avent Bottle warmer until I read this post. The price is well affordable and I’ll tell my nursing friend to get one for her baby.

  3. This was interesting to read a bit about Philips’ beginnings. I didn’t know that it was initially a dad and a so and that later on another son joined. I’m into graphic designs and marketing and you have sparkled my curiosity to go an read about those marketing campaigns Anton Philips did for the company during its beginnings.

I love Philips, and I agree with you concerning always following this faster and safer option. Thank you very much for this review. This is the one for me.
